Traveling through music

While on the road, you sometimes find yourself on a triathlon of bus, boat and plane rides. That’s when the music I had with me became very important. However, the more I traveled and met new people (travelers and locals) everywhere I went, whose own collections have inspired me, the more my collection changed.

After coming back home, I now associate certain songs with certain experiences (people, sounds, smells, colors, etc…) and every time I listen to these songs, memories of these experience come rushing back to me and usually bring a big smile along with them and make me feel like I’m on the road again.

So I hope you’ll enjoy these 11 songs as well and may they inspire you and bring a smile to your face one day as well.

PS. Why 11?

Well the number 11 has always been one of my favorites and used to be one of my football jersey numbers as a child. As a grown up, I like the fact that it represents two “Ones” next to each other, independent but together.

I am also one of the lucky (or cursed) people, who suffer from the number 11 phenomenon.

Finally, in Cologne, where I currently live the number 11 plays an important role as well. And for a long time I thought it was because of Karneval season, which starts on the 11th of November (11.11.), at 11:11 am, but it turns out there’s even an older story, why they chose the number 11 for the start of Karneval. It comes from the time when the french were settled in Cologne and had their national motto “Equality, Liberty, Fraternity” (Egalité, Liberté, Fraternité) written all over town, so the people of Cologne took the first letter of each word (ELF), which is means 11 in german, and gave it the same importance as the national motto of France.
